Bond Piano Studio Policies

Effective January 1, 2008

How much should I practice? I recommend allocating uninterrupted practice time daily (a realistic goal is 5 days per week). Reserve 20 minutes for beginners, 30+ minutes for intermediate students, and 60 or more minutes for advanced students. Students need to come to the lessons prepared and ready to learn new material. During home practice, the student is required to do their homework (including theory) following written and/or spoken instructions given at the previous lesson. The study of music is rewarding and enjoyable, but it is also work! I need parents' help to motivate and support students, and to make music study a productive experience.
How much do lessons cost? Lesson fees are $15 per 1/2 hour lesson. There is a family discount, additional immediate family members will be charged $14 per lesson. Each student will receive a bill the last lesson of each month for the lessons scheduled that month, plus entry fees when applicable. This bill is due the first scheduled lesson of the next month. Constant delinquent accounts will be grounds for dismissal from the studio.
What if I miss a lesson? There are no refunds or credits for missed lessons. Please notify me in advance about a lesson that will be missed, and reschedule that lesson if possible. Lessons missed with no advance notification will be charged to the student's account with no make-up lesson. The Student will not be charged for any lesson cancelled by me.
Are summer lessons required? Priority for time slots in the fall will be given to students who continue lessons through the summer. It is highly recommended that students continue lessons through the summer months so they do not lose ground during an extended hiatus. If a student will be out of town at any time during the summer, please let me know well in advance so teaching schedules may be adjusted accordingly. Make-up lessons will be provided during summer months.
Festivals & Audition Opportunities: Festivals or auditions are optional but highly recommended. Performance opportunities are an integral part of learning. Following is a list of all performance opportunities throughout the year. I will recommend students for each festival or audition.
IMTA District Auditions are usually held the first Saturday in December each year, winners advance to State Auditions. This is a competitive audition as well as ratings.
The IFMC Festival is usually held in March, students can earn trophies, ratings only, non-competitive.
Nebraska Summer Music Olympics, held in July at UNO. This is a competitive audition only in the advanced levels, ratings only in all other levels.
Recitals will be held throughout the year. Families and friends are invited to attend.
